14 days Kenya

Duration: 14 Days
From: Nairobi
To: Nairobi
Languages: English (others upon request)
On our enduros we ride from the Great Rift Valley towards the North Rift, further to the east coast of Lake Turkana and back to West Laikipia.

14 Days - Northern Kenya, East side of Lake Turkana & West Laikipia

The route will take you from the Great Rift Valley to the North Rift, up the east coast of Lake Turkana and back to West Laikipia. The terrain and landscape change greatly on this trip - from sandy, red earth to clay to rocky sections. Daytime temperatures also vary greatly - the further north we travel, the hotter it gets. We'll show you the less frequently visited parts of Kenya - a true adventure on two wheels! Enjoy amazing game viewing in Laikipia, if you are lucky you may see elephants along the trails or at the waterholes when they come to drink. Game drives will be in 4 x 4 safari vehicles.

Day 1 - Arrival in Nairobi:
You will be picked up from the airport and driven to the Tamarind Tree Hotel (or comparable) where you will spend the first night.

Day 2 - Conservancy:
Early in the morning you will be picked up in Nairobi and after a three hour drive, we will arrive at Punda Milias Camp where you will meet your escort team. After a briefing on the motorcycles and safety during the ride, we are off! The Conservancy is home to a variety of plains game, zebras, giraffes, gazelles, buffalos and other animals. The ride up and around the conservancy is incredibly beautiful and watching the animals from the seat of your motorcycle is a once in a lifetime experience. We will spend the night at Punda Milias Camp.

Day 3 - Exploring the area:
Today we spend the whole day exploring the Soysambu Conservancy. You have the choice between a picnic lunch on the way or lunch at the camp. There are countless trails you can ride here, with varying degrees of difficulty from intermediate to very technical enduro riding. Fun is guaranteed for everyone. We will spend the night again at Punda Milias Camp.

Day 4 - Ripe for the island:
After breakfast we will ride from Punda Milias Camp to Lake Baringo. The ride takes us through sisal plantations, down to Maji Moto and on to Kampi Ya Samaki on Lake Baringo. After about 200 km and 5 hours of riding our motorbikes, we leave the enduros on the mainland and take the boat to Island Camp. Overnight, we will stay there or at a similar place.

Day 5 - Hippopotamus:
We start our day with a delicious breakfast before heading out on our morning boat ride where we can see hippos and incredible bird life on the lake. Back on the motorcycles, we will ride from Lake Baringo to Maralal. This route will take us out of the Rift Valley and onto the Laikipia Plateau. In Maralal we will also spend the night.

Day 6 - Heading North:
From Maralal, we ride out of the Maralal Hills into the arid region of northern Kenya. The landscape is rugged and remote with magnificent views. We have a small picnic lunch along the way and continue to South Horr.

Day 7 - You thought it was hot already:
From South Horr we ride even further north to reach Loiyangalani on the shores of Lake Turkana. Lake Turkana is the largest permanent desert lake in the world. The temperatures here are hot and after arriving around lunchtime, you can relax for the rest of the afternoon. We will stay overnight at Oasis Lodge or at a camping site.

Day 8 - A day at the lake:
Today you will stay at Lake Turkana. We will first ride to an El Molo village to visit the inhabitants, the El Molo tribe is the smallest tribe in Kenya with a population of about 600 people. If you want to, you can visit the Loiyangalani Museum before we ride back to our accommodation for lunch. Afterwards, you can continue to hang out and relax as we will stay here for another night.

Day 9 - How cool is a rock pool:
Today, we get on our motorcycles quite early and head towards the Ndotto Mountains. Our destination is Ngurunit where we should arrive around noon. In the afternoon we will go for a hike to the rock pools in the Ndotto mountains. Overnight we will stay at a camping site.

Day 10 - Lots of sand:
After breakfast we get on the enduros and head northeast to Laisamis. The landscape is breathtaking and there is lots of sand to get under the wheels. We will be back at the camping site for lunch around noon. In the afternoon, you can relax at the camp or take a walk and explore Ngurunit by foot.

Day 11 - Uphill and downhill:
From Ngurunit we ride through various valleys and up the escarpment, past Maralal and on to the Mugie Conservancy and Ekorian Camp. Ekorian Camp is an amazingly eco-friendly camp on the 42,000 acre Mugie camping site. We may also spend the night at this location.

Day 12 - Elephant Day:
Today we will try game viewing by four wheel drive and also kayaking to see the elephants. Those who would like to can also take a small camel ride at noon before dinner. Later, we will enjoy the sunset in the protected area of the Ekorian Mugie camping site.

Day 13 - Home sweet home:
Today we are due to depart back to our base in the Soysambu Conservancy. About 80% of offroad riding is ahead of us, but a few sections are on paved side roads. You will spend the night at the already known Punda Milias Camp.

Day 14 - Departure:
After a relaxing morning in Punda Milias, you will head out on four wheels on the road to Nairobi. Depending on your departure dates, there will be a late lunch or early dinner in Nairobi, then it's off to the airport.
