This trip is aimed specifically at experienced motorcyclists who love challenging routes and adventure on two wheels. In order to offer a more intense and authentic experience, we deliberately travel in small groups and do not use a support vehicle to transport luggage. This allows us to fully preserve the freedom and flexibility that motorcycling is all about.
Our adventure tour begins in Avram Iancu (Vârfurile), at the foot of the impressive Apuseni Mountains. From there, we ride to Hunedoara, where the majestic Cetatea Corvinilor awaits us. The first section of the breathtaking Transalpina gives us a first taste of the adventures to come as we ride to Petroșani.
Our next destination is the Danube at Moldova Nouă. We travel along the Danube to the Iron Gate, where we visit the impressive Statuia lui Decebal. The route continues past Târgu Jiu to the historic region of Little Wallachia, in the foothills of the Southern Carpathians. Here lies the fascinating Peștera Muierilor (Women's Cave). We take a detour into a hidden, narrow gorge in the Vâlcan Mountains, where a little-known cave awaits us - a real insider tip off the beaten track.
In Transylvania, Romania's most scenic and historic region, we tackle the second part of the Transalpina, which takes us to Râmnicu Vâlcea. Another highlight of our trip is the Transfăgărășan, which will delight us with numerous photo stops and hopefully encounters with bears before we arrive in Brașov. Here we treat ourselves to a well-deserved rest day in a beautiful hotel. You have the option of visiting the bear reserve with us, or you can relax and explore the Black Church, the peasant castle in Râșnov or the nearby Dracula Castle Bran. The fortress church of Prejmer is also within easy reach.
Freshly refreshed, we set off again and ride through the impressive Bicaz Gorge (Cheile Bicazului) to Lacul Izvorul Muntelui. The Transrarău takes us over the 1,440-metre-high Col Trans-Rarău and offers spectacular views of the natural beauty of this region.
On our further journey, we stop in Sighișoara and spend the night in Sibiu (Hermannstadt), where the beautiful market square and numerous shopping opportunities invite you to stroll and store. On the last day of our trip, we head back to the Apuseni and Codru Moma Mountains before finally returning to our starting point in Avram Iancu (Vârfurile) via the winding roads.
Day 1: The adventure begins! (approx. 310 km)
We start at 09:00 in Avram Iancu (Vârfurile) and set off on an unforgettable journey. Our first destination: Hunedoara and the impressive Castelul Corvinilor. The imposing beauty of this medieval fortress makes it not only one of the most famous castles in Romania, but also a popular film set. Scenes for the film Ghost Rider 2 with Nicolas Cage were shot here - a place that combines history and movie magic.
From there, the route continues on the first section of the legendary Transalpina, one of the most beautiful and highest roads in Romania. The breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain landscape give you a first taste of the adventures that lie ahead and, in particular, of the two sections of the Transalpina still to come the next day. Our destination for the day is Petroșani, the heart of a traditional mining district, also known as the "City of Coal". Petroșani is not only known for its industrial history, but is also a lively university town - the perfect place to round off the first day of our journey.
Day 2: Enchanting routes and mystical legends (approx. 290 km)
The route takes us along a wonderfully winding route to Cascada Bigăr - a place full of magic and romance. Legend has it that the hair of a girl from the Almajului Valley was transformed into this unique waterfall, through which her tears also flowed. Her lover, a young man named Bigăr, drowned in the waters. Today, couples make a pilgrimage here to drink from the waterfall and promise each other eternal love. A mystical place that not only touches you with its beauty, but also with its moving history.
Day 3: Fascinating journey along the Danube (approx. 180 km)
Today our journey takes us to the imposing Danube and the impressive Iron Gate. We cross the spectacular Danube Gorge and pass the narrowest point where the mighty river shrinks to a width of only about 200 meters. We make a short stop at the Statuia lui Decebal, the largest rock statue in Europe, and pay our respects to Romania's fascinating history.
Did you know that the Danube is the second longest river in Europe after the Volga and the only one that flows from west to east? It has its source in the Black Forest in Germany and flows over 2,800 kilometers into the Black Sea at Sulina. After this impressive stage, we finally reach Drobeta Turnu-Severin, our destination for today, where we end the day in a relaxed atmosphere.
Day 4: Discovery tour to the caves at the foot of the Southern Carpathians (approx. 210 km)
Today our route takes us to the impressive foot of the Southern Carpathians, where another section of the legendary Transalpina awaits us. On the way there, we encounter two fascinating caves. The Peștera Muierilor (Women's Cave) is the better known of the two and attracts numerous visitors every year with its impressive formations. We take a detour into a remote, narrow gorge in the Vâlcan Mountains, where a hidden gem awaits us - a little-known cave that is off the beaten track. The ride through the gorge may be a little bumpy, but the beauty of this remote area makes every turn more than worthwhile.
Day 5: Off to the legendary Transalpina! (approx. 230 km)
An absolute highlight awaits us today: the most impressive part of the Transalpina, also known as Drum național 67C. As the highest pass road in Romania, it leads us through the majestic Transylvanian Alps and connects Little Wallachia with Transylvania. At an altitude of over 2100 meters, the views are spectacular - and even in summer it can get chilly up here. So don't just dress warmly for the unforgettable riding experience! Bend after bend, we wind our way through the mountains until we finally reach the historic Curtea de Argeș region, where we end the day in a relaxed manner and spend the night.
Day 6: The Transfăgărășan is calling! (approx. 240 km)
Today we ride another absolute highlight on our motorcycles: the legendary Transfăgărășan! At 148 kilometers, it is the second highest pass road in Romania and offers unforgettable views and challenging curves. Perhaps the bears have started their day early and are waiting for us at the side of the road. On this stretch, it's all about full concentration, staying behind the tour guide and following his instructions exactly! Because even if the bears often sit close to the road, they remain wild, powerful and unpredictable inhabitants of the Carpathians. A unique adventure that you won't soon forget!
Since September 2024, feeding the bears on the Transfăgărășan has been strictly prohibited and punishable by severe penalties - who knows how much longer we will be able to experience these majestic animals up close?
Day 7: Rest day - relaxation and discoveries
Use our rest day for relaxation or exciting activities! We offer an optional supporting program that leads you to a special experience: a visit to the nearby bear sanctuary. Here, over 100 bears rescued from poor conditions and captivity have found a new home in an extensive free-range enclosure. On a guided tour, separated from these majestic animals only by an electric fence, you have the opportunity to observe them in their realm. The entrance fee of EUR 10.00 per person is donated in full to the bear sanctuary, which relies solely on donations.
The entrance fee to the park is between 65.00 and 70.00 RON (approx. 13.00 to 14.00 EUR) per person.
If you prefer a relaxing day instead, you can use the time to visit the impressive Black Church in Brașov, explore the peasant castle in Râșnov or take a trip to the nearby Dracula Castle Bran. A walk through Strada Sforii, one of the narrowest streets in Europe, is also worthwhile. The fortress church of Prejmer is also within easy reach and well worth a visit.
Organize this day according to your wishes - active or relaxed!
Day 8: Adventure in the Cheile Bicazului (approx. 300 km)
After a restful night, we set off early for one of Romania's most spectacular destinations: the Cheile Bicazului in the Hășmaș Mountains. This impressive gorge is one of the most beautiful natural sights in the country. On both sides, majestic rock faces rise 200 to 300 meters high, while the rushing Bicazul River tirelessly carves its way through the rocks.
After an unforgettable experience in the gorge, we continue our journey and finally reach the picturesque Izvorul Muntelui reservoir, where we will spend the night today. Here you can enjoy the breathtaking nature and end the day in this dreamlike setting.
Day 9: The Transrarău - A feast for the senses (approx. 340 km)
Today we take on the impressive Transrarău! This breathtaking route takes us over the 1,440-metre-high Col Trans-Rarău and rewards us with spectacular views of the picturesque landscape of this region. Magnificent panoramas and unforgettable photo moments await us as we ride along the winding road. Let yourself be enchanted by the beauty of nature and enjoy every moment on this unique route!
Day 10: Along the Carpathians to Sibiu (approx. 270 km)
Our journey continues through the majestic Carpathian mountain range. After an enjoyable lunch stop in the historic town of Sighișoara, we reach our destination for today: picturesque Sibiu (Hermannstadt), the geographical center of Romania.
In recent years, Sibiu has developed into one of the most beautiful cities in the country. With its impressive medieval city center, rich history and important monuments, it attracts numerous visitors. Stroll through the charming alleyways, discover the numerous stores or enjoy the lively atmosphere on the beautiful market square. Sibiu is not only a cultural highlight, but also a place where tradition and modernity come together harmoniously.
Day 11: A winding journey of discovery in the Câmpia Turzii region (approx. 280 km)
Another adventure awaits us today on small, winding roads that take us through picturesque villages. On our way, we pass the historic town of Alba Iulia and continue our journey to the enchanting Câmpia Turzii region. The hilly landscape and idyllic views will accompany us as we enjoy the joy of riding and the beauty of Romanian nature. A real cornering paradise for motorcycle lovers!
Day 12: One last adventure (approx. 300 km)
The adventure continues! Today, another ride awaits us on magnificent routes to Cheile Turzii, one of Romania's hidden beauties. This lesser-known gorge is one of our personal favorites and will offer you another unique experience. On the last few kilometers of your Romanian adventure, you can once again enjoy the winding route and the impressive landscape.
In the late afternoon, we finally arrive back at our starting point in Avram Iancu, Vârfurile. Our unforgettable journey through the breathtaking natural beauty of Romania ends here. With many new impressions and memories in your luggage, you say goodbye to this fascinating country and its warm-hearted people.
